Ms. Owen graduated Cum Laude from St. Mary's College of Maryland in 1996 with an English B.A. degree. She attended University of California, Davis School of Law, became a Member of the Law Review, and received her J.D. degree in 2000. Ms. Owen joined the California Bar Association in 2000, and then the Nebraska Bar Association in 2004. She is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court of Nebraska, and is a member of the Omaha Bar Association and Sarpy County Bar Association.

An attorney and litigator for seven years, Ms. Owen has concentrated on bankruptcy for the last four years and is familiar with the changes in bankruptcy law effective October 2005. She first worked for a large firm in Sacramento, California in various areas of insurance defense litigation. When she moved to Nebraska in 2004, Ms. Owen joined Legal Aid of Nebraska for three years of public interest practice which gave her invaluable experience dealing with clients suffering from financial hardship.

Ms. Owen is now a solo practitioner in Papillion, Nebraska, which allows her to individually select and care for her bankruptcy clients. She also handles consumer law cases, such as Fair Debt Collection Practice and collection defense suits, and other matters including unemployment benefit and other public benefit hearings, name changes, uncontested divorces, and contract review and drafting.
